Rebirth Month

2012 is the year of creation.  This month I am creating a new relationship to my birth.

My birth mother was 19 years old, unmarried, and Catholic when I was born.  She was living in a home for un-wed mothers and as the story goes was hoping and waiting her entire pregnancy for my birth father to propose.  She waited 2 weeks after my birth to relinquish me to the courts and off to foster care I went.

I found this out when I was three standing outside my grandparents garage with my father (they adopted me when I was 3 months old).  He explained I was a chosen child.  That he and my mom had many, many children to choose from to adopt and they chose me.  While I heard his words, I could feel my whole world crashing down around my tiny 3-year-old body.  Why didn’t those other ones want me?  What did I do wrong?  Where are they?  What else about my life is a total lie?

Fast forward and the month of March has long been a “bad” month.  It’s been hard, difficult things have happened, etc.  Last year it was the month I had a miscarriage.  Heart break again.  So year after year I have been braced for the “bad”  based on something I made up when I was 3.  This year is about transformation, so, what if it was a month of celebration?

So this month, every single day I am doing something for me.  Something fun, or whimsical, or indulgent.  Perhaps even a woo woo ritual or two.  Every day.  All 31 of them.  No skipping.  No cheating.  Every day.  I honor my birth.

How, so far, you ask?  An Atlantean healing session, a play date with my niece and nephew, yoga, getting my legs waxed (ok love/hate there, but love smooth legs), attending a goddess ritual, gazing at the moon, singing because it makes me feel good, watching a beautiful sunset, dancing.  I was also given a tree of life necklace that I adore.  I’m loving March.

What I’m seeing so far is that it’s about intention.  I literally made a choice followed by a commitment and the thoughts, feelings, and emotions just seem to be following suit.  So I’ve got the rest of the month to go for this re-birth and would love more ideas.

What would you do to have fun, connect to your spirit, or honor your birth?  Even if it’s not your birthday month, I invite you to join me in honoring you.  I can’t imagine anything greater than all of us having our best month ever.  So, share your ideas and join the fun.  Let’s rock this month!

  1. I think you should make a batch of Teriyaki Chicken Wings with Sunday’s in Grandma’s kitchen in mind.

  2. Dearest Laura,

How powerful that you are making choices from your commitment to reinvention!

    Some other ideas to consider:

    1. Celebrate in community! Ask people: “What do you celebrate about me?” Or “Please tell me what you love about me!”

    2. Blow bubbles on the beach.

    3. What is your absolute favorite meal? Make it for yourself–or better yet–ask someone to make it for you. When you eat, eat on your finest china.

    4. Go surfing TWICE in one day!

    5. Go paragliding at Torrey Pines–fly in the sky just as you are flying in life now!

    Happy reinvention!

    Much love,

    Denise

  3. Smell fresh flowers
Take a photo of something fun, beautiful, inspiring…
Sing your favorite song at the top of your lungs!

    • I melded one of your suggestions along with my sisters. I sang my favorite song as a child (Blondie’s One Way or Another) while skipping and dancing around my living room with my husband this morning. Great way to start the day!
